Dale Pilkinton, M.D.

Dale Pilkinton, M.D., is a highly respected and experienced physician specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. He has performed thousands of eye procedures, including corneal transplants, strabismus, retina, and oculoplastic surgery to correct abnormalities of the eye and surrounding areas.  Countless patients have benefited from Dr. Pilkinton’s refractive surgery, including LASIK and lens implants, and other procedures to correct vision, astigmatism and cataracts.

A native of Nashville, Dr. Pilkinton focused on cataract and refractive eye surgery early in his career. He was chosen for a four-year ophthalmology residency at the prestigious L.S.U. Eye Center, as opposed to the traditional three-year program. After his one-year residency in internal medicine, he spent four years gaining extensive surgical experience in clear corneal cataract surgery, refractive surgery, corneal transplantation, strabismus, retina, and oculoplastic surgery. His refractive surgery experience as a resident included radial keratotomy, astigmatic keratotomy, epikeratophakia, laser vision correction and phakic intraocular lenses.  As a senior resident, Dr. Pilkinton won the national resident’s video competition for cataract surgery sponsored by the American College of Eye Surgeons in conjunction with the American Board of Eye Surgery.

A regular national and international lecturer on surgical eye procedures, Dr. Pilkinton is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and by the American Board of Eye Surgery in Cataract and Lasik. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with high honors and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American College of Eye Surgeons, and the American Eye Study Club. A dedicated husband and father, he spends his free time with his wife Jane Anne (Filson), and children Sophie, Ophelia and Oliver.
