Focusing his career in eye surgery, particularly cataract and refractive surgery, Dr. Pilkinton was chosen for a residency at the prestigious L.S.U. As a senior resident, Dr. Pilkinton won the national resident’s video competition for cataract surgery sponsored by the American College of Eye Surgeons in conjunction with the American Board of Eye Surgery.
Upon completion at L.S.U. in 1995, Dr. Pilkinton was invited to return to Nashville to join the practice of Spencer Thornton M.D., president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. This practice is one of the oldest and most experienced in cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Pilkinton gained invaluable surgical experience working alongside Dr. Thornton and another prominet refractive surgeon Dr. Jim Hays.
Dr. Pilkinton has lectured nationally and internationally and is a member of the American Academy of Opthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American College of Eye Surgeons, and the president elect of the American Eye Study Club.
