10 Questions You Should Ask
Your LASIK Surgeon

Remember that LASIK surgery is “surgery.” It’s a procedure that Dr. Pilkinton takes very seriously. We believe that you should do the same. That being the case, you have the right to rigorously question your surgeon. Here are 10 questions you should ask before selecting your LASIK surgeon:

  1. How many refractive LASIK procedures like mine have you personally performed?

  2. What’s the percentage of your LASIK surgery patients who have uncorrected vision of 20/40?

  3. What percentage of your refractive surgery patients have uncorrected vision of 20/20 or better?

  4. What is the percentage of your LASIK surgery patients who have had vision-threatening complications, such as infection?

  5. Will I be seeing an optometrist for my pre- and postoperative care? If I am seeing an optometrist, can I still see you any time without his/her authorization?

  6. Will I be charged if I require fine-tuning after my procedure?

  7. When will I receive a copy of my informed consent?

  8. Who will determine the actual measurements that will be programmed into the Excimer laser?

  9. Are you a locally based surgeon with a local practice, or do you travel to this location to perform surgery?

  10. Where will my surgery be performed? In a surgery center or an office suite?
